Description
Hands down the first choice for most people doing track days or targa tarmac rally events in their Elise or Exige.
Installing a harness bar into your vehicle enables you to use a 4 or 6 point harness which can transform your driving experience, especially at high speeds or intense applications. Just like racing drivers around the world you are pulled into your seat tightly and this reduces the need to brace your body when cornering. You end up relaxing and allowing your attention to focus more on driving as your body weight is kept in place by the harness. Not being adequately supported, and sliding around in your seat means that some degree of mental capacity is being used on supporting yourself- mental capacity that could otherwise be used to absorbing feedback from the car, controlling the car and going faster. Not to mention, bracing yourself from acceleration is usually done by gripping on to the steering wheel tighter, or leaning your leg against the car, compromising steering and pedal inputs.
A harness bar kit plus harness can be used with HANS compatible safety devices as well. The placement of the harness bar in the Lotus Elise or Exige cabin has been developed to enable you to retain the use of the rear speakers while also getting the full range on the seat runner adjustment with the bar kept as low as possible.
We have kept the design and installation required as simple as possible & our team has designed the CNC machined aluminium clevis pieces which insert into high tensile steel tube. Joining these clevises to the roll hop is done through high tensile steel mounting plates which are inserted through a slot cut in the rear speaker panel. CAD modelling of the SSC bar vs Lotus OEM shows that the SSC bar is both stronger and lighter when subjected to the same loads.
Most owners will purchase the Harness Bar Kit plus a 4 or 6 point harness, front/rear tow hooks & fire extinguisher/bracket kit to provide the first stage of safety upgrades recommended for high performance driving. Once you purchase the harness bar you can then decide on the use of a 4 point or 6 point harness for just the driver or both driver & passenger seats.
